Basic Approach

We, PILOT and the PILOT Group, believes that it is our corporate social responsibility to improve value and contribute to the development of a sustainable society through our business activities.
We will keep working to maintain and improve the environment and society, recognizing that our business activities are only possible when people in society can live with peace of mind.

With Local Communities

Social contributions through business activities

PILOT and the PILOT Group make social contributions through business activities. We will continue to work on more of these activities through manufacturing and sales.

Support for Save the Children Japan

In 2015, PILOT launched products with the Save the Children Japan logo and the original character on the body. Part of the proceeds were used to support Save the Children projects around the world.

We also provide products to the Children’s Food Support Box operated by Save the Children Japan. The Food Support Box provides food and other items to families facing financial difficulties with the goal of improving the circumstances of children during the long summer and winter vacations. We have been told that there are many requests for stationery, so we provide writing instruments.
We will continue to support Save the Children Japan.

  1. * Save the Children is an international NGO, founded in England in 1919, active in about 120 countries. Save the Children helps to realize a child’s right to live, grow, be protected, and to participate.

Promoting culture and education through business activities

Writing and education are closely related. Education affects future employment prospects, and in a world where poverty is recognized as a problem in many areas, we believe that education is an effective way to break the chains of poverty. In line with those ideas, we are active in countries and regions around the world with support for many types of learning, such as improving the educational environment for children as well as supporting the physical and mental growth and diversity that can be learned through sports.

Sponsorship of the Japan Science & Engineering Challenge

The Japan Science & Engineering Challenge (JSEC) for high school and technical college students (organized by Asahi Shimbun and TV Asahi) is intended to create and nurture future scientists. This is a nationwide independent science and engineering research contest for high school and technical college students. Students who achieve excellent results in this contest go on to participate in the world competition.
In addition to presenting the PILOT Corporation Award for excellent research, we support learning opportunities for future scientists through this sponsorship.

Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters reading promotion campaign

We have been supporting the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters’, a Japanese Professional Baseball team, campaign, started in 2014, to promote reading throughout Hokkaido with the phrase “Turn your glove into a book.” We hope to foster the habit of reading from an early age and improve academic skills amid the declining number of children using libraries in Hokkaido and the number of books being lent out.
This campaign focuses on elementary school students, during their summer vacation, then who have finished reading the target number of books. They were presented with mechanical pencils made by PILOT featuring the Fighters logo through the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.

PILOT 4 School supported by Pilot Pen (Deutschland) GmbH

PILOT’s sales subsidiary in Germany, Pilot Pen (Deutschland) GmbH, has implemented PILOT 4 School as a framework for educational communication for teachers and students to deal creatively with the topics of cultural diversity and environmental conservation. This subsidiary provides to teachers free teaching materials on these topics. In addition, an annual school competition is organized in which participating classes from primary and lower secondary schools compete with creative ideas.
PILOT 4 School started in 2016, so 2022 marked the sixth time. In 2022, 343 classes from Germany and Austria participated under the main theme of environmental conservation. This competition received a range of ideas, including ways to recycle plastic waste as well as climate protection puzzles. The winning classes each received a subsidy for the class fund and each participating student got a PILOT pen set. Pilot Pen (Deutschland) GmbH will continue this initiative to support teachers and the next generation.

Together with regions and communities

In every region where our offices and production bases are located, PILOT and the PILOT Group contribute to local development and become a loved and respected company in the region.

Workplace experience / Plant tour

Plant tours conducted by PILOT and Group company production plants help us communicate with local people and customers as well as deepen their understanding of the Company.
In addition, we cooperate with local schools to give students workplace experience at our plants. When children, who will be responsible for the future, see where writing instruments are made, they learn about our company and feel closer to us. At the same time, they get opportunities to think about their dreams for the future.

  1. * Currently, plant tours are limited to schools in areas near our plants.
