A Century of Tradition, a Vision for the Future
On October 1, 2018, PILOT Corporation celebrates the centenary of its foundation. This achievement is thanks to the enduring support of our customers, for which we are eternally grateful.
A century ago, in 1918, during the early days of fountain pen production in Japan, our company succeeded in machining and welding a gold pen nib using iridosmine, an alloy used in pen points, thereby establishing our very own gold nibbed pen manufacturing technology. Our success in developing the technology required to manufacture gold nibbed pens led to the birth of the first ever made-entirely-in-Japan fountain pen.
Since then, we have continued our journey as a company while still upholding our founding principles: Three forces in balance with each other, Shared joys and shared sorrows, Overcoming difficultie, One step, one day, A very sincere approach.
To mark the one hundredth year since our foundation, we have drawn upon our rich reserves of both advanced technology and traditional Maki-e craftsmanship to develop some exquisite products: The Japanese Seven Gods of Good Fortune, a set of centennial commemorative lacquerware pens created by calling upon the collective craftsmanship of our very own group of Maki-e artisans, the KOKKOKAI, and two commemorative fountain pens, the Fuji and the Fuji & Meiji-Maru, each featuring their namesake images. We hope that these pens will become treasured writing companions for countless years to come.
Turning to the next hundred years, we will endeavor to remain faithful to our mission, as a company, "Support writing". I hope that you will continue to support us as we work to make this happen.
